Child Health Insurance in Utah

Health insurance is something that everybody needs, and this holds especially true when it comes to children. In the state of Utah alone there are approximately 71,000 children that do not have health insurance coverage. This works out to about 13 percent of children in the state. And the bad thing about this is that over the past five years this number has been on the rise.

While many people think that these children come from families with no parents in the work force, this is not always true. In fact, the majority of children without insurance coverage live in a family with at least one parent working a full time job. These parents either cannot afford health insurance coverage for their children, or their employer does not offer it.

Although this is a large problem in Utah, it actually reaches out far beyond this state. Millions of people from one side of the United States to the next are living without health insurance. Luckily, Congress has taken recent action with the adoption of the State Children's Health Insurance Program; better known as SCHIP. This plan provides health care coverage to more than 100,000 children in the state of Utah, and more than four million nationwide.

With health care costs on the rise it is important that each state continues to do what they can as far as providing health insurance coverage is concerned. Federal funds need to continue to be added upon in order for this type of coverage to continue.

All in all, the lack of health insurance coverage is a major problem all over the country. It is important for every child to have the proper health care. With programs like SCHIP this is possible, but even then there are many who are still uninsured.
