Beware of your Health Insurance Deductible

Many health insurance policies have a deductible. Do you know what this means? Generally speaking, a deductible is an amount that you will pay out of pocket before your health insurance kicks in. The higher your deductible the more that you may have to pay in any given year.

Your deductible will depend greatly on the individual health insurance plan that you choose. It is not uncommon to find a plan with no deductible, but then turn around and find one with a $5,000 deductible. If saving money is important to you, higher deductible plans are your best option. Just make sure that you always have enough money put aside to pay this money if need be.

A high deductible health insurance plan is not necessarily a bad thing. Many people do not like these because they are scared of paying money out of pocket. But remember, you only have to pay your entire deductible if you reach that level of medical expenses.

The deductible is one of the most important features of a health insurance plan. When you know what this stands for and how it will affect you, dealing with it should never be a problem. Despite the fact that high deductible health insurance plans have some drawbacks, they can be much less expensive than their counterparts.
