Can I have too much Life Insurance?
Can I have too much life insurance? This is a question that is quite common in today's day and age. While it is nice to have all of the coverage that you need, many people feel that they may be going overboard. And with so many people worried that their finances are not secure, this is most definitely a legitimate concern.
Generally speaking, having life insurance is a good thing. Although there are some people who do not need it, the majority will find that it is beneficial to both them and their family. But with that being said, there is a time when you can be buying too much life insurance. This is something that you have to determine on your own. You should base the decision on how much money you have in other investments, your family, and of course, your overall financial situation.
Many experts feel that you should have a life insurance policy worth six times as much as your annual salary. So if you make $50,000, a policy for $300,000 will best suit your needs. Of course, this varies based on who you speak with and other factors such as those listed above.
The point is there is no reason to pay for an excessive amount of life insurance. Even though it would be nice to have more than you need, just to be safe, you have to keep in mind that you will be paying for this. And if you have a term policy, you are paying for something that you may never even get to take advantage of.
As you can see, there are times when paying for too much life insurance is a bad thing. But before you cut back, make sure that you take the time to consider what you have, what you need, and what your financial goals are.
