Can you rely on a Car Insurance Referral?
So you are thinking about switching car insurance companies? If so, you probably want to make the right choice, while also saving some money along the way. Although your friends and family may know a lot, relying on a car insurance referral from them may be a huge mistake. There are several reasons for this:
- When you talk with somebody who loves their car insurance company it is safe to say that they probably have a relationship with them. Are you going to be able to duplicate this? The answer is more than likely no. Instead, while they are getting preferential treatment you are stuck in the same boat as everybody else. The only way around this is to quite possibly drop your contact's name in hopes that the agent will cut you a break as well. This may not work, but it is definitely worth a try.
- Car insurance is not something that is the same across the board. A friend may refer their agent because he offers the "lowest prices in the industry.' But guess what? Your friend may have never been in an accident or received a speeding ticket. On the other hand, you may act like Jeff Gordon when you are on the road. In turn, you will never qualify for the same rate as the person who referred you. Simply put, your past history will greatly determine the type of car insurance that you will qualify for.
- Do you drive the same type of care as the person who is telling you where to buy? If not, you are probably being misled. After all, it takes more money to insure a Corvette than a family station wagon.
There is nothing wrong with asking others what car insurance company they use, and how they like the service they receive. But remember, you do not want to rely entirely on what they have to say. This could lead you down the wrong path in the long run.
