Car Insurance and Changing Vehicles
As you probably know, the law requires that you keep a certain level of car insurance coverage. No matter what type of car you are driving, you need to make sure that you have insurance for it. One of the biggest reasons that people make mistakes is because they sell their old car, but forget to take insurance into consideration on the new one. Of course, the dealer will want to see proof of insurance, but the details do not stop there.
When you change cars, you can all but be sure that your insurance is going to change as well. This is not to say that your coverage levels have to change. But as far as price is concerned, you can bet on this. In most cases, your car insurance premium is going to increase when you change vehicles; well, if you buy a newer car at least. There are some cases when this will not hold true though.
To be safe, call your car insurance company before you purchase your new vehicle. Tell them what you are thinking about buying so that they can give you a quote. You can then compare this to what you are currently paying for coverage. This will give you a great idea of how much more you will pay, or how much you will save each month.
When you change vehicles, do not forget about your car insurance situation. You want to make sure that you keep the same coverage levels, and that your premium does not go through the roof.
