Clinton vs. Obama: The Insurance Showdown
If you didn't know better, you would think that the Democratic Presidential candidates are worried about nothing more than the state of the health insurance industry in the United States. While this is definitely a major issue that needs to be addressed by the country's new leader, some can't help to wonder if Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are going overboard. The two have been at each others throats over this debate for several months now. And it is safe to say that this animosity is going to grow as the next few months wear on.
Senator Clinton has more or less put herself on the line by making her health care plan the centerpiece of her candidacy. She has said time after time that the only way to solve the health insurance woes is to make it mandatory for every American to have coverage. And by looking at the numbers alone, it appears that she has a case. After all, approximately 47 million Americans are uninsured at this time. Although she is making her case well known, some are worried that her plan is not as solid as she thinks.
On the other side of things, Obama is taking an entirely different stance. He does not plan on calling for a mandate for adults in the area of health insurance coverage. His main argument, and also a good one, is that the majority of Americans want to have coverage but cannot afford it. He has argued time after time that until the cost of health insurance is lowered, the problem will not go away.
At this point, Americans need to decide which Senator they agree with. Even though there are other issues that need to be taken care of, whoever comes out on top in the health insurance debate will surely be in the best position to secure the Democratic nomination for president.
