Does your Employer offer Life Insurance?
If you work at a traditional job there is a chance that you will receive benefits. Although not as common as health insurance, some employers will give workers the ability to take advantage of life insurance as well. Is this something that you are lucky enough to have access to?
Many people who receive life insurance from their employer think that they are set. While this can be true, you need to make sure that you are receiving enough benefits. After all, if you are earning $100,000/year and your life insurance only covers you for $25,000, your family could be in financial trouble should you lose your job.
There is nothing wrong with buying a life insurance policy on your own to supplement the one that your employer offers. In fact, this is what a lot of people end up doing. And remember, not everybody receives even a small policy from their employer. They instead have to purchase any coverage that they want on their own.
You should know if your employer offers life insurance. If you are new to the job, ask the human resources department about this. Even if they say no, you will at least know where you stand. From there, you can set up the life insurance situation that is best for you and your family.
