Fortis Health Insurance and Dying HMOs
There are nearly 45 million Americans who are uninsured, and this has become a huge problem as of late. And to make things even more difficult, those who are insured are becoming frustrated with high double digit premium increases from year to year. When coupled with HMO limitations, it is easy to see why so many people are becoming worried with each passing day.
Health insurance policies that have a high deductible, such as $5,000 a year, are not expensive on a month to month basis. Of course, the policy holder will have to pay the deductible out of pocket before any of their bills are covered.
It is no secret that health insurance works best when the fewest amount of people possible make claims. This ensures that the system generates plenty of profits, which can in turn lower premiums and then bring in more participants. But on the other side of things, the health care system works best when a large number of people use it for things such as checkups, teeth cleanings, etc.
Companies such as Fortis health insurance that offer several plans have found out that HMOs are more or less a dying breed. Since they require a referral from a primary care physician, more and more consumers have found that these plans are not worth it.
As HMO health plans continue to die off, this is going to affect companies such as Fortis health insurance as well as the entire health care system. It is safe to say that changes are going to have to be made in order to compensate for this trend.
