Group Health Insurance: Do you have any Say?

Do you have any say when it comes to the type of group health insurance that you have? In most cases the answer is no. Before you can understand this you must first understand what you are getting with a group health insurance policy. In this case, your employer purchases a policy that employees can access if they so desire. For this reason, you are not making any decisions. Instead, you can either take advantage of group health insurance or decide to obtain coverage elsewhere; those are your two options.

Should I take advantage of group health insurance? This is a question that only you can answer. Before you decide in one way or the next, make sure that you know the pros and cons of the group health insurance policy being offered and that you also know your other options for obtaining coverage. If you can get group health insurance for free it would be a mistake to pay for something else. After all, why would anybody pass up free health insurance in today's day and age? It simply doesn't make sense.

If you have questions on the group health insurance that your employer offers you will need to speak with the benefits administrator. They should be able to give you details on the group health insurance plan ranging from cost to coverage to getting started. And if you have any specific questions, be sure to ask those as well.

Generally speaking, you do not have any say when it comes to the group health insurance offered by your employer. Instead, you can either join the coverage or say no thanks. No matter what, you should at least consider the benefits of group health insurance through your employer. In most cases, it is easier and more cost efficient to join a group policy as opposed to buying individual coverage.
