Group Health Insurance: How to start, what you get
Is group health insurance something that you want? If so, you probably know the benefits of this type of coverage. But the problem with this is simple: not everybody has access to group health insurance benefits. Why, you may ask? Well this comes from the company that you work for. If they offer group health insurance you will be able to get on the plan, in most cases. But if they don't, you will have to get your health insurance benefits elsewhere. This is definitely something to consider when interviewing for a new job.
When you do have access to a group health insurance policy, you will receive a lot of benefits. It is not a secret that most group policies offer better coverage than anything you could reasonably buy on your own. For this reason, you will definitely want to consider any possible way that you can get involved with group coverage.
Do you have to pay for group health insurance? Once again, the answer to this question will depend on your employer. Some employers offer to pay 100 percent of the premium for employees. In today's day and age, free health insurance is just about the best workplace benefit you can receive. Other employers, usually those that are trying to save money, only pay for a part of the premium, such as half. In this case, you will still have access to the policy, if you want, but you will have to pay some money out of your own pocket.
Getting started with group health insurance is not difficult. If your employer offers this, ask the human resources department what it takes to get on the policy. Of course, if your employer does not offer this benefit it may be time to look for a new job.
