Haggle when Buying Auto Insurance
Did you know that you do not need to necessarily pay the quote that a auto insurance company gives you? Most people think that this is the beginning and the end; a take it or leave it proposition. But in many cases this does not hold true. You can actually haggle with your agent to try to get a lower cost on your auto insurance.
The first thing to know about haggling is that you need to take the other person, in this case the insurance company, into consideration. Sure, you want to get a great deal on your auto insurance, but you need to be fair at the same time. If you are going to negotiate you should do so with reasonable thoughts in mind.
Next, have something to stand on. If you current auto insurance company is trying to raise rates, tell them that you have other quotes that are much lower than theirs. And to make this an even stronger case, present these quotes to them. There is a good chance that this will prompt your agent to find additional discounts, or a way to keep you with them. Remember, your agent only gets paid when they sell policies. So of course they do not want you to leave as a customer.
Finally, if negotiating does not work you can always make a change. The auto insurance industry is quite competitive, and there is no reason that you should have to buy a policy that does not work within your budget.
