Health Insurance and the Middle Class

There are approximately 46 million people in the United States who are uninsured. And out of this number, more than one third are middle class Americans from families that earn in excess of $40,000 per year. This is the fastest growing group of uninsured people in the country. Although most would not guess this, it is a fact that is becoming more and more difficult to deal with.

There are a number of different reasons that the middle class is going through a rough time as far as health insurance is concerned. First off, unemployed individuals have found it next to impossible to find a good health insurance solution. Although they could buy an individual policy, the costs of this are often times out of the ballpark; especially if you need to buy for a family as well.

Additionally, more companies are cutting back on the coverage that they offer due to ever increasing premiums, as well as other areas of strain. In turn, employees are forced to either pay more for health insurance, or cut it out altogether.

The government is considering many different options that could help to get this problem under control. Among them, a universal healthcare plan; much like the one that is used in Canada. But before any major change takes place, there are many details that will first need to be taken care of.

For many middle class Americans, health insurance coverage is a problem that needs to be addressed. Hopefully, things will begin to take a turn for the better, and the number of Americans who are uninsured will decrease.
