Blue Cross Blue Shield

If you have ever heard of the National Labor Office you may be aware of the fact that they are affiliated with Blue Cross Blue Shield. The National Labor Office, or NLO, was founded by Blue Cross Blue Shield approximately 40 years ago. And believe it or not, they continue to fund this effort today.

Generally speaking, the National Labor Office is responsible for labor outreach. The main goal of this is to keep union members up to date on everything from health care developments to providing new programs. With more than 20 million union members and their families in the United States, it is important that the National Labor Office does its job day in and day out. They act as the middleman between the unions and the Blue Cross Blue Shield to develop relationships, provide educational materials, and much more.

Healthy Competition Program

Due to the increase use of performance enhancing drugs by athletes, the Blue Cross Blue Shield created the Healthy Competition Program. This is meant to encourage athletes to stay safe by respecting their sport and keeping it drug free at all times.

The Healthy Competition Program offers information on sports, staying in good health, and of course, drug use. Additionally, the program also supports research of performance enhancing drugs while also promoting it to the public.

PBS Second Opinion

The PBS Series, Second Opinion, is based around medical personnel discussing actual cases that they have dealt with in the past. Blue Cross Blue Shield provided a sponsorship for this series during the 2005-2006 season. The main goal of the series is to help the public to understand complex medical issues as well as the treatment and choices that go along with them.

Since being formed 75 years ago, Blue Cross Blue Shield has grown quite a bit. But even though the company has grown, they have stayed true to their roots of serving individual groups and providing educational information.
