Health Savings Accounts: Use them to your Advantage
Although the United States health care system cannot be called a “free market,” it is certainly a better option than a single payer system. Some of the benefits of the current system in the US include:
1. United States medicine produces the best results for almost every type of patient. This includes everybody from premature babies to the elderly.
2. All in all, United States research and training facilities are among the best in the world. This means that patients have the best chance of getting better in the quickest amount of time.
As you may know, Canada has a single payer system that often time forces them to wait more than a year for surgeries such as hip or knee replacement. At this time, residents of the United States do not have to worry about this.
You should keep in mind that when politicians say that they want a single payer system, they often times have not thought this through. They claim that their only concern is making sure that the uninsured get coverage, but this is not the case. If a single entity controls healthcare, they in turn control more than 1/7 of the economy. And every country that has tried this system has failed miserably.
A better option for the United States is most definitely health savings accounts. Although not everybody qualifies for one of these, the uninsured most definitely will. With a health savings account, you have the chance to stock away money for future medical expenses. Of course, you can also have a high deductible plan in order to take care of bigger expenses.
There are many reasons that health savings accounts are beneficial to people who cannot afford top of the line health insurance. This option sure beats a single payer system. After all, this type of system has failed time and time again.
