Insurance Breaks for Small Businesses
There is no denying that health insurance costs have gotten out of control over the past few years. Not only is this affecting individuals, but small businesses are also struggling with the rising costs.
Small businesses are hoping that lawmakers can assist them in this area by offering health insurance breaks in the near future. Although nothing is set in stone, there have been talks about this happening. For instance, Alabama Governor Bob Riley feels that tax breaks would help small businesses afford health insurance coverage, and in turn this would allow more employees to participate.
The plan proposed in the state of Alabama is quite simple. Small businesses with 25 employees or less would be able to deduct twice the amount of their health insurance costs when filing state taxes. Additionally, any employee who is making less than $50,000 could also deduct twice the amount of their health insurance costs.
While this may not seem like a change that would affect many, Riley feels that 90 percent of businesses state wide could benefit. This would allow businesses to expand, save, create tax revenue, and of course allow more people to afford coverage.
Although there are a lot of people behind this plan, like always, there are quite a few that are opposed. Lawmakers and state officials will be looking at this plan closely so that they can make the best decision for the people and small businesses in the area. It is safe to say that a lot of small business owners have their fingers crossed!
