Lawmakers Looking to Lower Insurance Premiums in Florida

Lawmakers in Florida are working diligently on a plan to help homeowners in the state. Due to a rash of hurricanes a couple of years ago, Florida homeowners have seen rising costs in insurance premiums since. It appears that lawmakers are closer than ever before in passing a bill that would cut insurance premiums up to 40 percent for some homeowners.

The special committee that is working on this problem is looking for a way to reverse the rising costs of insurance premiums. If something is not done about this problem soon, it is safe to say that many residents will be forced to leave the state.

Although the residents of Florida had always paid high insurance premiums, after the many hurricanes of the 2004 season these costs took off.

If this plan goes through, homeowners will be able to save a lot of money. Of course, if this happens, the state itself will have to take on a lot of the burden. People who live on the Florida coast will be able to save as much as 20 percent on insurance premiums, and homeowners dealing with private insurance companies can take advantage of even bigger savings at a clip of up to 40 percent.

The first step to this plan being approved is for lawmakers to vote. If the plan makes it pass the lawmakers, the Florida governor will have the final say on the approval. Florida residents are surely waiting anxiously to hear the outcome. An approval could mean hundreds of dollars in savings for thousands of people in the state.
