Life Insurance: Term for Older Buyers?
In today's day and age, the types of life insurance polices that are available are quite varied. For older buyers, those age 50 or more, the buying situation is a bit more complicated. After all, buying life insurance this late in life is usually not a good idea. It is much better to have a policy in place when younger because it will cost less, and also protect your family at the same time.
So the question is: what type of life insurance is best for older buyers? Most professionals agree that term life insurance is the best choice. To take this even further, you may want to look into a convertible term life insurance policy. Have you ever heard of this? The nice thing about a convertible policy is that even if you are sick when it is time to renew, the insurance company must honor you and continue your coverage. Obviously, this is a great idea for older buyers because you never know when an unexpected illness is going to occur.
It is important for buyers to keep in mind that there are different types of term life insurance policies. What are some of the variables you may ask? Well, as mentioned above, you may be able to get a policy that is "convertible.' For many buyers, this is an absolute must. In addition to this, not all term policies last for the same amount of time. You may want to stretch your policy to 20 years or so, or maybe a shorter length is better; only you can answer this question. Of course, the biggest difference between policies is the death benefit. In other words, how much money will the beneficiary receive if the policy holder passes on? The higher the death benefit the more money you will pay each month.
There is no way of saying that one type of life insurance policy is better than others. For older buyers, term is usually the way to go. But until you look at all your options, you will never know for sure. Even if you know that you are going to buy a term policy, take the time to gather details and information on whole and universal coverage as well.
