Purchase Life Insurance before you Get Married, Have Kids
When do I need to purchase life insurance? This question is commonly pondered by many people in their 20's and 30's. After all, this is the age in which the majority of people get married and have children. That being said, you need to consider your situation based on your life and how you envision it moving forward. In other words, do not purchase life insurance because you think that you have to or because you are in a hurry to do so.
The reason to purchase life insurance before you get married and/or have kids is simple: this is when you will become financially responsible for protecting other people. When you live on your own or with your parents, nobody is relying on you for money. But the second that begin to care for other people is when you need to purchase a quality life insurance policy. This does not mean that something is going to happen to you, but it is better to be safe than sorry. After all, you want your spouse and/or children to be safe if you pass away at an early age.
How much life insurance do you need to purchase? What type is best? Although it may be easy for you to decide when to purchase life insurance, the type and amount is not always as simple. If possible, you will want to look into how much it would cost to buy life insurance that pays out a benefit equal to your annual salary. So if you earn $100,000 per year, you will want your life insurance policy to equal this amount. This way, if you pass away your family will have enough money to stay afloat for at least one year. To go along with this, your can opt for either whole life or term insurance. While term life insurance will expire, it costs less money.
If you are getting married in the near future or expecting a child, it is time to start searching for a quality life insurance policy.
