Auto Insurance > Three Ways Car Insurance Companies Mislead Consumers

Three Ways that Car Insurance Companies Mislead Consumers

It is unfortunate that some car insurance companies and agents mislead consumers time and time again. They figure that whatever they can do to increase business is good enough. But the fact of the matter is that this leaves consumers disappointed in the coverage that they have purchased.

If you know the common ways that car insurance companies mislead consumers, you will be able to avoid these situations in the future. Here are three to keep an eye on.

  1. When you ask for a quote from a car insurance company they will give you the lowest rate possible without checking your driving rate. But then the big surprise comes when it is time to pay. The quote that they gave you and the actual rate will be nowhere close because they will state that your driving record forced some changes. Of course, this does not always work because some drivers have a perfect record. Make sure that the quote you receive is the amount that you will pay.
  2. Being told that you do not qualify for any discounts is common. Remember, when a car insurance agent does not give you discounts they can charge more. In turn, they see an increase in their paycheck. Make sure that you are receiving every discount that you qualify for. If you feel that you are being misled, move onto another company.
  3. Some agents will tell consumers whatever they want to hear in order to make them buy on the spot. For instance, they may say that their rates very rarely increase. Of course, this is just a sales tactic, and the consumer ends up dealing with an increase sooner rather than later. Be careful about what you believe. When it comes down to it, car insurance agents are nothing more than sales people who need you to buy in order to make a living. If necessary, they will mislead you to make a sale.

Being misled by a car insurance company can be quite annoying. Now that you know about the three lies above, you will have a much better chance of avoiding being misled.
