What you may have forgotten about your Health Insurance Policy

If you are like many consumers, you have had the same health insurance policy for quite a few years. There is nothing wrong with this; in fact, it is a good idea. By keeping the same policy it will allow you to become comfortable with your benefits and what you can and cannot do. That being said, the longer you keep your health insurance the better chance there is that you may forget about some of the finer details.

Here are three things that you may have forgotten about your health insurance policy. If so, you will want to find the answers right away:

  1. Most individual health insurance policies have a lifetime benefit maximum. This is important to consider because some people do close in on this limit sooner rather than later. Obviously, you need to know when and if you are getting close so that you can exercise all of your options.
  2. Which providers can you see? When you purchased your health insurance policy this may have been the first thing that you checked into. But as time goes by, there is a chance that you may have become out of touch with the providers in your network. Make sure that you always know who you can see, and whether or not it will cost you anything extra.
  3. Believe it or not, you may not be using some coverage that you have access to. This can include everything from prescription coverage to physical therapy to chiropractic care. It is important to know what your policy will cover so that you always seek out the care that you need.

It is common to forget some details of your health insurance policy over time. Instead of letting this happen to you, take the time to review your coverage at least once per year.
