Will Mandatory Health Insurance work?

Due to the fact that presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton is proposing a mandatory health insurance plan, there has been a lot of talk about whether or not this would work. In other words, would every American really get health insurance? Or would there be a way for some people to beat the system? Obviously, if the plan is not going to be 100 percent effective there is no point in moving forward with it in the first place. This would simply leave the US in the same position.

The answer to this question all depends on who you talk to. For one, Senator Clinton and most of her followers believe that making health insurance mandatory will absolutely be successful. The problem with this is that they have yet to lay out all the details that will outline how the plan will be carried out. In other words, how is the United States going to make sure that everybody has health insurance coverage?

There is a large group of people who believe that making health insurance mandatory will be quite similar to Social Security and Medicare. Workers have to pay into both of these programs, and those who are for mandatory health insurance feel that this will work the same way. While this does have some credence to it, obviously some infrastructure will have to be put into place to ensure its success.

On the other side of things, there are just as many people who are against the mandatory health plan that Clinton is pushing so hard for. These people, including Senator Barack Obama, would much rather make health insurance more affordable than mandatory. He feels that those who do not have coverage cannot afford coverage. By lowering costs the number of insured will rise exponentially. Just as Clinton has good points to her argument, Obama does the same for his point of view.

There is no way of knowing if a mandatory health insurance plan would work effectively. The only way that the United States will find out is if the new President decides to implement this mandate. Until then, the debate will continue.
