Would you give up Group Health Insurance?

Believe it or not, many employees do not like the group health insurance that they receive through work. There are many reasons for this. In the end, a large number of these people decide to give up their group health insurance in favor of another option. While this may sound crazy, if you have a backup option this is not all that bad.

The number one reason for giving up group health insurance is if your company is making you pay the majority of the premium. It is one thing to receive this coverage for free. But when your company begins to ask for a large portion or the entire premium, it is time to reconsider. After all, you may be able to turn to another option and subsequently save a lot of money.

If you are going to give up your group health insurance coverage, as mentioned above, you need to have a plan in mind. Most people who do not accept coverage through their employer opt for one of two options. First off, they consider getting on their spouse's group coverage. Definitely consider this option if you can do so for less money. Your other option is to do away with group health insurance altogether and purchase an individual policy. This route can be tricky because in most cases you will not find an individual policy that offers as much coverage as a group one at the same price. That being said, it never hurts to shop around.

Some people have no problem giving up group health insurance through their employer. Others would not do this for anything. If you are not happy with your current group policy, consider the options above to learn about the benefits you can take advantage of.
